Bellevue, this-with an important connection restored to the big Big Bridge, Northern Businesses of Kentucky are hoping to recover lost income and wish the gap in loss of foot traffic they have experienced while repairing the 100-day bridge .
Five cities in Northern Kentucky – Bellevue, Covington, Dayton, Fort Thomas and Newport – will participate in the Bridging Back Business Initiative.
Bellevue Mayor Charlie Cleves created the idea for a week with valuable agreements on the bridge theme to raise stuck business again in December.
“(Reopening) has not really attracted people again for some reason,” he said. “The weather is one of them. No one wants to end up for lunch now when this is cold and bad during the day.”

Many Bellevue businesses, Cleves said, are recovering only 10% of the foot traffic they lost after November 1. In general, many lost 30% due to repairs that change traffic models.
“It really hurts businesses. I would appreciate businesses in Bellevue lost more than $ 5 million in total, which is too much for a small town, a square,” Cleves said. “It was, it was really bad for them.”
BRIDGING BUCK BUSINESS PROGRAM will start February 25:
- Java 1: February 25 to March 1 – Bellevue and Dayton
- Week 2: March 4 to March 8 – Covington, Forth Thomas and Newport
- Week 3: March 10 to March 15 – Bellevue, Covington, Dayton, Fort Thomas and Newport
“Undoubtedly were lower, slower days. We didn’t understand it until the bridge opened again,” said Beth Saunders, owner of Place Place in Bellevue. “We definitely appreciate (Odot) by fixing it faster than they first planned. We thought we will see a difference, and we really did it.”
Saunders is one of the 23 owners of the Bellevue business that participates in the first week of agreements.
“It will be great. All are excited,” she said. “Everyone is talking about it, and it is definitely getting a lot of publicity. And, I think it will be a very, very positive thing.”
Here’s what the first week of Bellevue’s deals:
- Tuesday, February 25: 10 Special Dollars for Lunch
- Wednesday, February 26: Special Retail State as “Bridge the Gap in your wardrobe” or “Bridge Gap in your Wellness”
- Thursday, February 27: New Riff Distiller Competition, in which all bars can participate
- Friday, February 28: cocktails and ridicule happy hours
“We are trying to strengthen people to get out of here. And, I know that many businesses are doing the same thing, which is exactly the type of what we need, even if it’s a little push,” Kyleigh said Johnson, a Advisor of Adoption with Purfect Day coffee. “It’s worth it, and I can’t wait to see businesses with hope to bloom after that.”
